Day 10, Tuesday the 26th, One Republic released their new album, and the girls and I took a nap.
Day 11, the 27th, umm... I snuggled with the girls. I know lots of napping and boringness, but it's been cold and snowing even!
Day 12, Thursday the 28th, Kyle and I had a movie night. We watched the new 007 Skyfall.
Day 13, Friday, I took the day off work, went to the mall, relaxed at home, and then my husband took me to The Melting Pot for dinner. Yum!
Day 14, Today, CELEBRATION DAY!! Kyle and I worked on building some raised beds this morning. They are not done yet, but it's exciting to start building things for our garden. So now I am going to rest, but tonight we are going out!!! Don't know what we are doing exactly, I know some friends will be joining us, but I am not allowed to know the details.
Then, of course, tomorrow is the BIG DAY! I will officially be 30! But it is also Easter, so I will be having lunch with family, and enjoying my day.
My Meghan Madness wreath!!! Sparkles and animal print!
Well honestly, I don't really know. I got the idea several years ago from hearing about how some people celebrate their birthdays for a whole week or even a whole month. And some people give their celebrations crazy names. My thought was, I am awesome, I should do this too! And since I like St. Patrick's day so much (I'm sorta Irish), and it is exactly 2 weeks before my birthday, and my birthday is in March... Hey I'll call it Meghan Madness. And so the idea was born. I kinda just like to say Meghan MaaadNess in a crazy announcer voice. It's fun. Try it!
Generally I just try to do something a little fun every day, just to make the day a little better than ordinary. I usually look at what holiday is on that day for ideas (did you know there is a holiday for every day?). Also if there are any fun events happening in town. Anything that is colorful, sparkly, or shiny absolutely qualifies to be part of Meghan Madness. It's not really madness, but it'll do. Since this is all leading up to becoming another year older, I tend to be a little introspective and usually try to restart healthy eating and exercise habits (which you have probably already noticed). That's about it. It's that simple. I am looking forward to seeing what the rest on Meghan Madness 2013 has in store.
I did a simple craft project over the weekend. I glued rhinestones to the end of silver push pins so I can make my cork board glam!
I also have managed to eat fairly healthy after finishing my juice fast. I did indulge a little on Saturday and had fish and chips when celebrating St. Patrick's day at the festivities downtown (I had, after all, just run a 3K), but then I made sure to have a salad for dinner.
Sunday I made myself brunch (pictured). And then for dinner I tried a new recipe. It was a vegan cauliflower curry, pretty good, and then also baked some mahi mahi (not pictured).
Very yummy! Other than that I relaxed with my dogs. Pretty great way to start Meghan Madness.
I survived the juice fast, sort of. I cheated a little, but is it really cheating when you are only eating vegetables and fruits? I was already allowed to eat pre-made salad with this fast, but I made my own in addition or in replacement. Bottom line, I ate super healthy for 3 days and I lost 6lbs. I think I have a better grasp of what foods I need to be eating every day and what foods I should just be eating on occasion. I wish I could say there was a juice or two I really loved and that I would do this again someday, but I didn’t and I’m not. However, I own a juicer and am now somewhat excited to experiment and make my own juice concoctions. I vow to eat healthier, every time I want to have a candy bar I’ll have to eat an apple or a carrot first. I am going to try to eat salad with dinner every day. Maybe try to eat Vegan one day a week. I think in the future when I want to get my health back on track I will just take a few days to eat nothing but vegetables and fruits, but never again do I want to do a juice fast.
This year I have also been working on being more active. I have been running, trying new classes like Jazzercise and belly dance, and I have been buying different fitness DVD’s. Recently I purchased a Fitbit, and so far I really like it. It helps me to be more aware of how much, or how little, I am actually active during the day. Along with it, I have also began tracking what I eat. It is nice to see the comparison of how many calories you are burning compared to how many you are consuming.
