Finally done!

I have finally finished my concrete counter top and back splash!  It was a lot of work, but I am very happy with the finished product.

I have to give a huge thanks to my dad who put in my new sink, faucet, and garbage disposal.

I have a few more things to do in the kitchen  before I would consider it completely done, but it feels good to have gotten this much done.  This was a large project that took over my life for a couple of weeks.  My body still hasn't totally recovered.  So for now I think I will kick back and relax.

Kitchen Progress

So I have been very busy on my kitchen counter top and back splash.  I've been thinking about this project for a while and doing tons of research.  I originally saw this Ardex concrete product on Kara Paslay Design.  I'm so happy they thought to use it on counter tops. Here are some progress pics.
This is how awful my kitchen was.  There was a leak in the faucet that would spray you in the face.  My sink was very shallow, and the garbage disposal leaked.  Eww.

I had to rip the boarder tile off of the wall and then repair the wall.

The blueish green paint is a waterproofing and crack isolation membrane.  I then started putting the layers of concrete on the counter top.

I don't think I will ever get all of the dust out of my house from sanding the concrete.

And then I began to tile.

Here I've put one coat of sealer on the counter top and am ready to grout the back splash.  Making progress.

I've been working on some projects.  This is what our kitchen looked like when we first moved in.  We painted it this green color, which is still in our laundry room.
Before too long we painted the cabinets white, changed the walls to brown, and eventually tiled the floor.  We also bought new stainless steel appliances.
Next, I plan to put concrete on the countertops and tile the backsplash.  Work in progress pictures to come soon.
I am also planning to change some things in the master bedroom.  These are the colors we painted when we moved in.  We love the green, but it is really hard to cordinate with and not have preschool primary colors everywhere.  So goodbye green...
Hello navy!  Here is a preview of what it could eventually look like.
So much to do, so little time!!

Making christmas presents

This year for christmas I have tried to make several of the presents for my friends and family.  Here are some things I've made.

I made scarves for several people.

I made some scrapbook paper and initial art for my friend Lisa and her daughter Ellie.

I liked the intial so much I decided I had to make one for myself.

Christmas decor

This is a wreath I made out of rosemary and holly from the yard.

Every year my holiday decor changes just a bit.  I make a few adjustments here and there to make it feel different.  This year I've been using a lot more ribbon and deco mesh.  Here is just a little bit of what my decor looked like this year.

Thanksgiving is better with cheesecake!

My brilliant friend Lisa made a suggestion for uploading pictures and it worked!  Now I can finally show you how little I did over the holidays.
For thanksgiving this year I attempted to make a cheesecake.  I have been wanting to try to make a cheesecake for a while, and even put it on my 30 before 30 list.  And then I saw this cheesecake on pinterest and I knew I had to make it.

The crust

The filling
Finished product.  It was a little difficult to take out of the pan, and so it kinda got destroyed.  All that matters is that is was tasty.

I would post

I would post but all the photos I upload look like this!  Lots of weird colors and stuff.  I don't know how to fix it.  Ugh.
