New things!

It still needs a few more coats of Mod Podge.
In other news...

Got some new furniture delivered today!!!

Love the paper towel holder that I have standing in for the lamp I'm planning to put there. I am spray painting the lamp a kelly green.  I'll have to take another picture when it is complete.

Tray project

Lately I've been collecting trays for around the house. When you put a bunch of stuff on a table it can look like a mess, but put that stuff on a tray and it becomes cute decor. Recently I purchased a cheap wooden tray at Hobby Lobby and I sprayed it with some gray spray paint primer. Then I added layers of off white spray paint. For some reason it was not going on even, but the paint created an interesting effect on the bottom of the tray.

I put on a few more coats of paint.

It's not perfect but it will have to work.  Now for the next step.  Adding pattern!

Organizing my life

Every few months I get a strong desire to organize, mostly because I can't tolerate the mess anymore and I must fix it.  If I am lucky it'll get me through a project.  An example is when I cleared out our walk in attic.  I did it all in a day and a half.  Here is an after picture, wish I had a before, it was a mess!

It was exhausting and I probably could have slept for 3 days afterward.  Even being proud of my accomplishment I still have to wait several months before I find motivation again, and by then many other things have gotten out of hand.  I needed to find something that could help me break it down, and work on things continuously so that maybe I'd never have to do big organizing projects again, I'd just have to maintain it.
So at the first of the year I started reading One Year to an Organized Life by Regina Leeds.  Every month for a year you focus on a different area of your home/life. January you focus on the Kitchen.  I did make some improvements.  February you focus on the master bedroom.  Still a work in progress but every change makes a difference.  March you are suppose to organize paperwork.  I avoided doing this, but I will have to tackle it eventually.  I plan to try to work on it some this month. It really shouldn't be that bad, or so I keep telling myself.  About a year ago I organized it some so I just need to clean up what I don't need since another year has passed.  What I like most about the book is her recommendations on how to organize things.  Her filing system sounds pretty good, so I plan to use it an re-label my folders, clean up my system a bit.  And now to April, bathrooms.  The goal is to make them spa like and efficient.  I really don't think our bathrooms are that big of a mess, but I do have some projects I would still like to tackle.  Mainly I want to paint the cabinets white.  Now, there is no way I'll paint all the cabinets in all the bathrooms this month, but it is a project I finally need to start.  And I'm sure my husband would be thrilled if my beauty product didn't over take the counter top as often.

Wish me luck!

Spring Flowers!

Since the winter and the spring has been so warm my daffodils have already came and went.  I've been wanting to plant some flowers, but there is still a chance of frost.  So I decided to get some hardy pansies and spruce up the front entrance with a little curb appeal.

Bright  and springy!

Meghan Madness 2012 Highlights

Everyone has heard of March Madness, but have you heard of Meghan Madness?? I kick off the madness with St. Patrick's day and celebrate all the way through to my birthday on the 31st. Here are some of the highlights!

Fun hair for St. Patrick's Day.

My husband rocking a shamrock tux t-shirt!

I found the best nude polish and then added glitter tips.

These look like Meghan Madness donut holes to me!

Bought myself some pretty flowers for the first day of spring.

Spring nails.

My attempt at mixing prints.

My husband bought donuts.

I attempted to make s'more cupcakes!

With all the junk food I made some healthy meals.

My husband got me a mini orchid

And some tiramisu, yum!

Had to have some sparkle!

I also did some crafty stuff too, this is my newest spring wreath.

My husband was actually out of town on my birthday, so the weekend before he took me to a nice restaurant, and then for some frozen yogurt.  It was a pretty good birthday, I just hope my husband realizes that he has to top it next year!

363 days and counting!

Saturday was my 29th birthday.  So today I have 363 days till the big 3-0!  I know many people have a 30 by 30 list.  I have already accomplished several things on my list (this blog being one of them), but still have many to do and only a year left to do them.  I have been lucky enough to travel out of the country, to beautiful Punta Cana, DR, own a home, be a college graduate, and many other things. Now to accomplish everything I have left on my list.  Looks like it is going to be a busy year.

Some of my goals are works in progress.

I have been working for a while now to make my health a bigger priority, especially since my thyroid cancer diagnosis in November 2009.  I look forward to the day I can say I've been cancer free for 5 years.  Everyday is different, as my motivation comes and goes, but I am getting better at working out consistently and eating healthier.  Looking toward my 30s and beyond I'm also trying to maintain a good skin care routine.

I want to learn a foreign language. I've always studied Spanish in school but never really seemed to retain it.  Traveling to the Dominican Republic saddened me to realize I knew so little Spanish. Buying Rosetta Stone may be in my future.

I'm working to organize my home and my life.  I have been reading One Year to an Organized Life by Regina Leeds.  She does a really good job of breaking it down.  Each month you focus on an area in your home or life, and each week you have assignments to help you organize that area.  I started in January and I have seen improvement but I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

I also have smaller items on my list such as learn to make cheese cake, make a quilt (which I have already started), and learn the Thriller dance.  This may be a very entertaining year.

Looks Like I better get busy.
